What Are The Benefits of Shopping Local?

When you shop local, you’re investing in your community. For every $100 spent locally, roughly $73 returns to the local community, compared to only $43, of that same $100, when spent at chain stores or restaurants.

When profits stay local, a communities tax revenue and standard of living increase.

Keeping Money Local

Local businesses are more likely to shop local and use local services, keeping money moving in the local economy. Helping local businesses to grow, creates a local investment into vital services such as the police and fire departments as well as street and park repairs.

Interesting Things and People

Local businesses often sell unique products made by local artisans. By shopping local you can find one-of-a-kind pieces and meet some great one-of-a-kind people!

Product Expertise

Most small business owners do so because they have a passion for their business. For example, if you’re looking for help with building materials, check your local hardware store as opposed to the big box store. You’re likely to find a more knowledgeable staff with many years of experience.

Better Service

Local business owners take a lot of personal pride in their shop or service. They have nurtured and grown it and are usually willing to go the extra mile to help you and make sure you have a good experience!

There are many more reasons to support your local businesses, such as increased non-profit support, reduction in environmental impact and shorter shopping lines. However, as a small business owner, my favorite reasons for keeping my dollars local are the personal touch and sense of community.

When you call your local shop with a question, you’ll probably talk to someone you’ve met multiple times, if not to the owner themselves. And, when the need arises that a member of the community needs help, it is the locally owned businesses that step up to assist.

We would like to thank all our customers for shopping local this holiday season and all year round.
